What does the Polish deposit system look like?
As of 1 January 2025, Poland will have a deposit system to which shops over 200 m² must comply. Shops covered by the deposit system will be obliged to accept empty beverage containers from customers.Shops selling beverages in respective containers (PET bottles up to 3 litres, aluminium and steel cans up to 1 litre and glass bottles up to 1.5 litres) are obliged to collect a deposit from customers, which will be returned after the customer returns the empty beverage containers.
To whom does the deposit system apply?
The deposit system applies to all shops with an area of more than 200 m².
Which containers are subject to the deposit system?
-Single-use plastic bottles up to 3 l (including caps) made of plastic,
-Metal and steel cans up to 1l,
-Multi-use glass bottles up to 0.5l.
What is the deposit amount?
The deposit amount for a container covered by the deposit system is 0,50 gr.
Who is responsible for collecting the containers?
The deposit system will be operated by a representative entity that meets certain conditions and will therefore be authorised to operate a deposit system.
How will containers be labelled?
There will be special markings on the packaging indicating that the packaging is covered by the deposit system specifying the amount of the deposit.
